Which providers does CheckRate compare for sending money to Ghana?
From Canada (CAD): Wise, Remitly, Pesa, LemFi, Taptap Send, Sendwave and Remitbee. From the UK (GBP): Pesa, Sendwave, Remitly, Taptap Send, Wise and LemFi. From the US (USD): Sendwave, Remitly, Pesa, Taptap Send, Wise and LemFi. From Europe (EUR): Wise, Pesa, Sendwave, Remitly, Taptap Send and LemFi. A provider appears when its rate for that route has been collected within the last day, so the lists can change. CheckRate is not paid by these providers.
Which provider pays the most cedis?
It depends on where you send from, and it changes. In CheckRate's records for the last 120 days (only days with at least three providers, Wise and promotional rates excluded), from Canada (CAD), Remitbee had the highest standard rate on 49 of 75 days; from the UK (GBP), Pesa had the highest standard rate on 70 of 75 days; from the US (USD), Pesa had the highest standard rate on 75 of 75 days; from Europe (EUR), Pesa had the highest standard rate on 74 of 75 days. A transfer fee can change the order, so compare the amount received on the day you send.
Can I send to mobile money in Ghana?
Several providers list mobile money for Ghana on their own pages. Taptap Send lists MTN Mobile Money, AirtelTigo Money, Telecel Cash and Zeepay; LemFi lists MTN Mobile Money, AirtelTigo, Telecel Cash and Zeepay; Remitly and Pesa list mobile wallets. Sendwave says an MTN Ghana wallet can hold only up to 10,000 cedis at one time, so a large transfer may need a bank account instead. Vodafone Cash is now called Telecel Cash.
Are all these providers approved by the Bank of Ghana?
In Notice BOG/FMD/2023/78 (16 November 2023) the Bank of Ghana listed LemFi, Wise and six other money transfer companies as operating in Ghana without its approval. In February 2024 the Ghana News Agency reported a LemFi statement that it had approval to resume through approved partners. We did not find a Bank of Ghana confirmation of that. If this matters to you, ask the provider which Ghanaian partner pays out your transfer.
Why do providers pay different amounts for the same transfer?
Each provider sets its own exchange rate, which is usually below the mid-market rate, and some add a transfer fee. CheckRate shows the estimated amount received after the fee we have on record, so you can compare like with like. The provider's app shows the final figure before you confirm.
