We tracked CAD to GHS rates from seven providers over 103 days. Here is who led, how wide the gap was, and how each app pays out in Ghana.
Short answer: in our CAD to GHS records from 14 May to 11 October 2026, Remitbee had the top published rate on 67 of 103 days and Pesa on 30. The gap between the top and bottom rate on a typical day was 2.71%. Remitly's standard (Economy) rate was last on 97 days. The leader changes, so check the live rates before every transfer.
How we checked. We used CheckRate's own records of each provider's last published standard rate of the day for Canadian dollars to Ghanaian cedis, counting only days when at least three providers were recorded. That gave 103 days between 14 May and 11 October 2026. We checked Canadian registrations on the FINTRAC and Bank of Canada registers between 9 and 11 October 2026, and read each provider's own Ghana payout pages. Full details are on our methodology page.
Corrections. An earlier version of this article showed rates of 13 to 14 cedis per Canadian dollar; the top rates in our records were about GHS 8.05 to 8.65 per Canadian dollar. It quoted Canadian bank fees without a source. It ranked Taptap Send as "best rate" and LemFi as "best for customer service" without evidence. It said Sendwave is "part of Wave"; Sendwave is a Zepz brand, in the same group as WorldRemit. It said Taptap Send does not always cover Vodafone Cash, but Taptap Send's Ghana page lists Telecel Cash, which is the new name for Vodafone Cash. It also left out the 2023 Bank of Ghana notice about unapproved money transfer firms.
CheckRate is not paid by the providers named here, and our links go to their public websites.

Limits of this data: these are published standard rates, not the exact quote the app will show for every amount or payment method. Remitly's first-transfer promotional rates are excluded. Wise is excluded because it charges a separate fee at checkout that our records do not capture. Our records have a gap in September 2026.
What the numbers mean in practice: a 2.71% gap on CAD 500 is worth about CAD 13.55 in value, and on the widest day (5.26%) it was worth about CAD 26.30. Two providers held the top spot on almost every day.
For wider context, the World Bank's Remittance Prices Worldwide report for Q1 2025 put the average total cost of sending the equivalent of USD 200 from Canada at 5.98%, and to Sub-Saharan Africa at 8.78%. Those are averages across many corridors, not figures for any one app.
Rates, fees, delivery times and the amount received all change, so check the live CAD to GHS page before you send.
How these providers are regulated in Canada
Every provider below appeared on both the FINTRAC money services business registry and the Bank of Canada payment service provider registry when we checked between 9 and 11 October 2026.
| Brand | Registered company | FINTRAC number | On Bank of Canada register since |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remitbee | Remitbee Incorporated | M20773748 | 16 Oct 2025 |
| Pesa | Pesapeer Inc. | M20300281 | 10 Mar 2026 |
| LemFi | Pomelo Technology Canada Ltd. | M20383642 | 26 Mar 2026 |
| Taptap Send | Taptap Send Payments Canada Inc. | M21060579 | 9 Mar 2026 |
| Sendwave and WorldRemit | WorldRemit Inc. | M11556765 | 7 Nov 2025 |
| Remitly | Remitly Canada, Inc. | M15481516 | 12 Feb 2026 |
| Wise | Wise Payments Canada Inc. | M15193392 | 16 Oct 2025 |
FINTRAC registration is about anti-money-laundering rules. The Bank of Canada register, under the Retail Payment Activities Act, means the firm is supervised and must safeguard customer funds it holds, in a trust account or a separate account with insurance or a guarantee (Bank of Canada). Neither is deposit insurance: money held by these firms is not covered by CDIC.
The Bank of Ghana notice and LemFi
On 16 November 2023 the Bank of Ghana published Notice BOG/FMD/2023/78, which listed LemFi, Wise and six other firms as money transfer organisations operating in Ghana without its approval.
In February 2024 the Ghana News Agency reported a LemFi statement saying LemFi had approval to resume Ghana transfers through approved partners. That is the company's own statement as reported. We did not find a Bank of Ghana confirmation. If this matters to you, read both documents and ask the provider which Ghanaian partner pays out your transfer.
How each app pays out in Ghana

| LemFi | MTN Mobile Money, AirtelTigo, Vodafone Cash (now Telecel Cash), Zeepay, banks |

| Remitly | Cash pickup, bank deposit, mobile wallet |
| Pesa | Bank account or mobile wallet |
Sources: Taptap Send Ghana help page (updated 25 September 2026), LemFi Ghana page, Sendwave Ghana FAQ, Remitly Ghana page and Pesa. Remitbee and WorldRemit payout options were not part of our checks; confirm them on their own sites.
A note on names: Vodafone Ghana became Telecel Ghana in 2024, and Vodafone Cash is now Telecel Cash. Some apps still show the old name. It is the same wallet.
Wallet limits matter for larger transfers
Sendwave's Ghana FAQ says an MTN Ghana wallet "can hold only up to 10,000 cedis at one time". At the top rates we recorded (about GHS 8.05 to 8.65 per Canadian dollar), 10,000 cedis is roughly CAD 1,150 to 1,250. If the wallet already holds money, the room left is smaller.
For school fees, rent or a building payment, consider a bank deposit instead. Taptap Send, LemFi, Remitly and Pesa list bank payout in Ghana; Sendwave does not. If you must use MoMo, ask the recipient to check their balance first, or split the amount across days after they have withdrawn or spent the first part.

Mistakes to avoid
Frequently asked questions
Which app gave the most cedis per Canadian dollar in your data?
Remitbee and Pesa between them led on almost every day we recorded, as the tables above show. Past leaders are no guarantee for today, so compare live rates on the CAD to GHS page before you send.
Why is the gap on CAD to GHS wider than on other corridors?
We do not know the providers' reasons. For comparison, our median daily gap was 1.33% for GBP to KES and 0.92% for GBP to NGN over similar periods, so comparing before each transfer pays off more on this corridor.
Can I send to Telecel Cash (formerly Vodafone Cash)?
Yes, with Taptap Send or LemFi. If an app still shows Vodafone Cash, that is the old label for the same wallet, so the recipient's number does not change.
Is LemFi allowed to send to Ghana?
LemFi says it resumed through approved partners after the 2023 Bank of Ghana notice, but that is the company's own account and we found no regulator confirmation. If it matters to you, ask LemFi which Ghanaian partner will pay out your transfer.
Is my money protected if a provider fails?
Safeguarding rules apply to funds these firms hold, but that is not deposit insurance (Bank of Canada). The regulation section above explains the difference, and you can search any firm on the register yourself.
Can I pay into a Ghanaian bank account?
Yes, with four of the five providers whose Ghana pages we read; Sendwave is the exception. A bank deposit is also the simpler route for amounts too large for a MoMo wallet.
