Why we built CheckRate
Sending money home should not require a spreadsheet. But for millions of Africans in Canada, the UK, the US, and Europe, figuring out which app gives the best rate on any given day is genuinely complicated. The stated fee is rarely the whole story. The exchange rate margin — the invisible gap between the mid-market rate and what you actually get — often costs your family far more than any headline fee.
CheckRate was built to solve this. One place, all the providers, sorted by the only number that actually matters: how much your family receives.
No sign-up. No hidden agenda. No provider pays to rank higher — our table is sorted purely by estimated receive amount. We may earn a referral commission if you click through to a provider and complete a transfer, but this never influences how providers are ranked.
How CheckRate works
We fetch live rates
Our system pulls exchange rates and fees directly from provider platforms every hour. Every rate shows its exact fetch timestamp.
We calculate what you receive
We compute the estimated receive amount for your transfer — (send amount − fee) × rate. This is the only fair comparison metric.
You pick the best and send
Click through to the provider directly. We never touch your money — all transfers happen securely on the provider's own platform.
Providers we track
All 8 providers are included on merit — none pay to be listed or ranked.
Editorial standards
All content on CheckRate — rate comparisons, blog posts, and provider descriptions — is produced by the CheckRate editorial team. Our editorial process:
- →Rate data is fetched automatically from provider APIs and verified by admin review. Stale or suspect rates are flagged and can be overridden manually.
- →Blog content is researched and written by the editorial team. We cite authoritative sources (World Bank, central banks, FCA) and update posts when key information changes.
- →Provider descriptions are based on publicly available information and our own rate tracking data. We do not accept payment for editorial coverage.
- →Affiliate disclosure — we may earn a referral commission when you use provider links. This never affects rankings or editorial content.
For a detailed explanation of how rates are collected and displayed, see our Rate Methodology page.
